This quiet little Port used to be home to Buccaneers - now its a lovely destination for beach-goers. Louis XIV had a home here, and was married in the city church. We'll walk through the center of town and visit this church, you might enjoy shopping for some of the local specialties here.
Stop 2:
This impressive military fortress was built by Napoleon's architect: Vauban
Stop 3: 0.5 hours
This little Basque mountain village is one of the most beautiful villages in France. Visit the typical Basque church and its cemetery with the unique Basque gravestones
Stop 4: 0.8 hours
This Basque mountain village is famous for its red chili peppers. The village is colorfully decorated with these red chili peppers - which they hang on the outside of the buildings to dry.
Stop 5: 1 hours
Saint Jean Pied-de-Port is a fortified city - you can walk along the ramparts. This was an important stop along the famous pilgrimage: the Camino de Santiago de Compostella
Stop 6:
Bayonne is the Capital of the french Basque Country. In addition to the rustic old town, with skinny cobble-stoned streets, there is a lovely cathedral: Sainte-Marie de Bayonne
Stop 7:
Biarritz Rhymes with Glitz! This is a lovely gem of a city on the Atlantic coast of France not far from Spain. Historically, it was a destination for British and Russian aristocracy. Today Biarritz is a chic, luxurious seaside tourist destination.
