Day 6: Tozeur-Chott el djerid-Douz-Matmata
The Chott el Djerid salt lake is a stunning body of water located in southwestern Tunisia. Spanning around 5,000 square kilometers, it is the largest salt lake in North Africa. What makes Chott el Djerid unique is its changing nature. During most of the year, the lake is dry and its surface is covered with a layer of white salt, creating a surreal, desert landscape. However, during periods of rain, the lake fills with water, transforming into a giant mirror that reflects the sky and the surrounding area. The salt lake scenery is spectacular and offers a feeling of vastness and serenity. The expanses of salt and the lack of vegetation create a desolate and mysterious atmosphere. The changing colors of the sky and sunlight add a touch of beauty and magic to the environment.
