Tour Overview

Join us on paths less travelled to discover the true heart of Fiji. Fiji is famous for its corals and coast, but we will take you on a journey away from the tourist resorts and walking in a landscape of dramatic peaks, pristine forests, sparkling rivers, remote villages, vibrant traditional culture and unique history. Our hikes are set up for independent-minded travellers who want to be confident that they are being respectful to traditional landowners and fairly contributing to communities, without needing to worry about logistics or losing their way!

Itinerary

Day 1: Pick-up and scenic drive into Fiji's rugged interior
Travel with our experienced guides in our 4WD vehicles into Fiji's less-seen interior and your first village stay at the start of the track up Mt Tomaniivi, Fiji's highest mountain

Overnight at a homestay in Navai village and get to know your Fijian hosts. Sheets, blankets and pillows are provided.

Dinner: Have dinner with your guide and your host family. Food is served buffet style and eaten traditionally on a mat.

Day 2: Take on the challenging trail to the top of Fiji's highest mountain, Mt Tomaniivi
Breakfast early and start your climb up the steep and muddy trail before the heat kicks in. The summit boasts stunning views on clear days, and the surrounding area is a designated forest reserve. The cloud forest is amazingly diverse, with several orchid species and endemic Fijian birds to keep an eye out for. The return distance is around 10km, but we allow approx 6 hours for plenty of rest stops and a break at the top.

Overnight in Naga community hall. Mattresses, sheets, blankets and pillows are provided.

Breakfast: Prepared by your host family

Lunch: A light lunch, usually roti parcels (wraps) to eat at the top

Dinner: Prepared by the village from mostly local farm ingredients, presented buffet style and eaten traditionally

Day 3: Take in the views, and cool off in gentle rivers, as you hike a historic trail to Nubutautau village
Hike with your trained community guides along an old trail that links now abandoned villages along the upper Sigatoka river, through grassland and forest. The 12km hike takes approximately 7 hours with stops to rest, swim and have lunch.

Overnight in Nubutautau village community hall. Mattresses, sheets, blankets and pillows are provided.

Breakfast: Served in Naga village before the hike

Lunch: A light picnic lunch carried by your guides on the banks of the river

Dinner: Provided by Nubutautau village, presented buffet style

Day 4: Enjoy one of our favourite walks, a circular hike to a natural waterslide and through an old village site
Enjoy a guided 4-hour (5km) circular hike stopping off to discover your inner child on a natural waterslide tucked away in the forest, and find out more about Fiji's past as you walk through an old village site. Enjoy a final swim in the river or cool off in the shade before a final climb back up to Nubutautau village.

Breakfast: Provided by the village before the hike

Lunch: Light picnic on the hike carried by the guides
