Tour Overview

Make the most of your time in Nagoya on a 2-day excursion to Takayama and the Historic Village of Shirakawa-go, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admire the traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses of Shirakawa-go, many of which are more than 250 years old; explore Takayama, known as ‘Little Kyoto’; and travel along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, home to the spectacular Snow Corridor. Overnight accommodation and select meals are included.

  • According to traffic conditions etc, the order of the itinerary may be changed and the bus arrival may be delayed
  • If the tour operator has to cancel the tour because of a typhoon, heavy snow or other circumstances beyond their control, this will be decided by 3pm the day before tour departure; you will be informed by e-mail and suggested a new departure date or receive a full refund
  • This tour is operated for both Japanese and foreign customers. A Japanese tour conductor will accompany the group and provide key information using a translation app. Please note that the tour conductor is not a tour guide and will focus on sharing essential information during the tour.
  • On the Alpine Route, you will use different types of vehicles to travel through the mountains. Wearing comfortable and thick winter clothes (as visiting spots might be very cold) and walking shoes, also using a backpack for putting your belongings necessary for strolling are strongly recommended.
  • Traveling along the Alpine Route might have to be discontinued in the case of bad weather or other conditions. In such a case, vehicle fares for the non-traveling zone will be refunded.
  • Snow Wall Walk is available between around 15 April and 25 June. It may be cancelled in case of dangerous situations such as snowstorm, poor visibility, snowfall, bad weather, snow removal work, etc.
  • You may use a bus instead of the Tateyama Cable Car between Tateyama and Bijodaira due to congestion
  • If the departure time on the second day will be early in the morning (6:00~7:00) due to the congestion and reservation at the Alpine Route, boxed meal may be be served for breakfast.
  • The accommodation will be at Toyama Manten Hotel. Mainly this business hotel has single rooms. Depending on the availability of the rooms in the hotel, a twin room or all single rooms might be provided for even for youth age group. Any room requests cannot be accepted
  • The water discharge at Kurobe Dam (happening between 26 June and 15 October) may be stopped due to the weather or for other reasons.
  • For the departure on April 26, the departure time from Nagoya Station will be 30 minutes earlier than usual, at 8:00 AM.
  • Depending on the local congestion or road conditions, your stay at Murodo may be shortened
  • Due to reservation times and congestion on the Alpine Route, the return time may be significantly delayed
  • The highest point on the Alpine Route, Murodo, is at an elevation of 2,450 meters, and the temperature is about 12–13°C lower than at sea level. Please bring warm, lightweight, and easy-to-carry clothing, as well as comfortable sneakers. A raincoat is recommended.
  • On the first day, dinner will be at your own expense near the hotel.
  • Due to group arrangements, we cannot accommodate meal changes unless there are medical conditions or allergies that may pose a risk to your health. Please prepare your own meals if needed. We cannot offer refunds for meals or allow takeaway.
  • Please refrain from using the reclining function on the bus seats.
  • Delays or non-participation due to public transportation delays will be subject to cancellation fees. The tour will depart at the scheduled time listed in the pamphlet.

Pickup

Meet in front of the McDonald's inside Esca Shopping Mall at the West Exit (Taikodori-guchi) of JR Nagoya Station. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled meeting time. The tour conductor will be holding a flag and a placard with the local tour operator's logo. - Time zone: Asia/Tokyo

Itinerary

Day 1: Shirakawa-go, Hida Takayama
Your adventure begins as you meet your tour conductor at Nagoya Station. Here, you’ll board the comfortable tour bus and embark on a scenic journey toward the beautiful mountainous regions of Japan. As we head toward Hida Takayama, you will have the opportunity to wander through this charming town, often referred to as "Little Kyoto" due to its well-preserved Edo-period streets. The peaceful atmosphere and the historical buildings provide a perfect setting for an independent stroll. Take your time to explore traditional merchant houses, visit the local markets, or just enjoy the tranquil surroundings. You’ll also have some free time for lunch (on your own expense), where you can savor local delicacies such as Hida beef or other regional specialties.

Day 2: Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route
After breakfast, you will board the bus and head to Tateyama, one of the two entry points to the famous Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, located at an elevation of 475 meters. Prepare to experience the grandeur of Japan’s mountainous beauty as you begin your ascent into one of the world’s most scenic mountain routes. The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a renowned mountain tourism route that spans across the Northern Alps, passing through towering peaks that rise over 3,000 meters. The total length of the route is 37.2 kilometers, with a maximum elevation difference of 1,975 meters. As you journey through, you’ll be immersed in the vast, breathtaking natural landscape of Tateyama Kurobe, where the magnificent beauty of the alpine world unfolds before you.
