Itinerary
This is the center of the city and is considered as the heart of the city. Locals love to do shopping in fancy and glamorous brand shops, have dinner in fast food or local/international cuisine restaurant located in Nizami street, finally just walk. And during this walking time take photos. There are quite a lot things that can attract everyone. The most common name of Nizami street among locals is Torgovaya, which means Trade in Russian. The street was named as this during Russian Empire time. The service in the shops and restaurants in this street is higher than in other parts of Baku as well.
Whenever we reach to Gobustan area, we will change our transport ( because, the road leading to Mud Volcanoes is in bad condition, so only specific cars specially russian cars can get there) and lead to the Mud Volcanoes.
Home to nearly a third of the world's mud volcano's, Azerbaijan features a messy, bubbling, and sometimes explosive landscape. Mud volcanoes are closely associated with hydrocarbon and petrochemical stores underground, hence the gas trying to escape to the surface. A few of these gas leaks are constantly on fire, shooting small perpetual flames into the air and some believe that these perpetual flames are strongly connected to the appearance of the Zoroastrian religion in Azerbaijan some 2,000 years ago.
Every 20 years or so, one of these mud/gas volcanoes will ignite deep below the surface and create a massive explosion. While generally not dangerous to people, as they are far outside of most city centers, it is believed that six shepherds and over 2,000 sheep were killed by a mud volcano in Bozdagh, Azerbaijan.
On the road to Gabala, the first stop will be in Maraza village. You will visit Diri Baba mausoleum (mausoleum-mosque of the 15th century called Diri-Baba, located across from the old cemetery).
Architecture of Diri Baba mausoleum harmonically fits into picturesque surroundings of the building – view against the background of rocks and greenery of trees. The building of the mausoleum is a masterpiece of the architectural school of Shirvan and a beautiful creation of arts of ancient masters. The monument is protected by the government.
