Sporty food and wine enthusiasts
Overview
I live in the French countryside with my French partner who is the local mayor and pharmacist. We have three border collies and a large hillside garden with wide-sweeping views, swimming pool and sun terraces. One of our dogs is definitely not used to young children and has a strong tendency to herd and nip small creatures who move fast, he thinks they are sheep or pupies. The other two are rescued dogs so we are not sure of their temperament with regard to young children hence our reluctance to accomodate families with toddlers or children who are not used to dogs. Aside from this the dogs are friendly and welcoming, especially to anyone with a ball in their hand or who likes to cuddle! We are ideally placed for visiting Bordeaux, Dordogne and the Atlantic coast but my favourite place to visit is Périgueux where we have an appartment which we also let for holidays and short breaks! When there are no guests we stay there ourselves, I particularly enjoy Saturdays there as the local farmers' market is full of local delicacies and there is a very good wine shop below the appartment. Nothing can be better than oysters and a nice bottle of chilled white wine on the terrace! We are in the process of converting a large barn but all the major tasks are done and we have lots of finished living space to enjoy. All the bedrooms have en suites. We have a large terrace which faces the sun and in the summer we enjoy charcoal grills there. There are some beautiful spots in the garden, on the other side of the road, to watch the sun set or indeed the sunrise from! One of those spots is the swimming pool and its terrace. So the pool is separate from the house which we feel is a good security feature where children are concerned as it means a supervisory adult has to be with them at all times. There are a number of good restaurants in the vicinity but you do need a car to get around or you can borrow our bicycles! Or you can elect to dine with us provided we are given notice, although my partner is always telling me I cook for too many people everyday! Our cuisine is pretty global from dahl pourris to paella through boeuf bourgignon to foie gras with peaches. Meals are provided at an extra cost. If you are kosher or halal we can only provide you with vegetarian and fish meals as there are no appropriate shops here. If you have other dietary requirements it is best to contact us to discuss what can be achieved. Our favourite sports are golf -there is a 9 hole course nearby - and swimming - there is a lake with a quiet indoor pool and spa again not far away. I'm not very competitve but I enjoy a friendly practice on the badminton court whilst my partner can get quite competitive on the tennis courts , which are in the local villages.
