Overview
LOCATION: While Homestay's map won't show our home's exact location, being a remote island as we are, I must note to not mistake us for a Portuguese mainland location. We (me and my girlfriend) are located in a village of Santa Luzia on Pico island in the Azores archipelago, 1700 km west from Lisbon. Conveniently located right on the main road called Estrada Regional in Santa Luzia (Pico). The room is roughly 4 x 9 meters in size and has got a futon and a single bed which can be seen in the photos. Two extra mattresses can be provided also which are placed directly on the floor. It also has a work table and a dining table with chairs. About 200 meters from us there is a little local village grocery shop and two cafes within walking distance. Madalena is 9 km and São Roque is 7 km from here. The PIX airport is 4 km and the beach is 2 km. Views of neighbouring islands and the Pico volcano are abound. Remark about sharing: there will be no other guests staying overnight in the house at the same time and while there is no actual lockable door in the pictured archway connecting the large room with the kitchen, the bathroom and with the rest of the house, there is a retractable fabric curtain on the archway, for privacy. Thus while the bathroom and kitchen will be shared with us the owners, you will not share your room with anyone else. We have got a futon and a metal frame bed (see photos) with mattress and then for a 3rd and 4th person we have extra 2 mattresses that will be placed directly on the floor. The 3rd, 4th etc. person will be charged extra since our prices are only set up normally for up to two people. Remark about heating and air conditioning: The room does not have any heating or a/c and electric radiator is ineffective heating such a large room. Therefore it is recommended to book the room only during summer months and September. During cooler months of the year the temperature in the room fluctuates between +12C and +15C and humidity can be high during wet and rainy weather, while the room's tile floor may be slippery. We can provide an electric radiator for an additional €10 per day, but the room lacks the door in order to isolate it and our house is unheated as well. Thus October through May it is best to book it just for overnight sleeping. Upon request I can provide a mobile elctric bathroom heater. PAYMENT FOR ACCOMMODATION: Full payment upon guest arrival, payable directly to your host, in cash in Euros (preferred) or 7 days before arrival via a bank transfer (within the EU countries only), with a debit or credit card (5% fee applies) or via Paypal internationally (5,5% Paypal fee applies) in Euros (€). US Americans can also pay with ZellePay (US$) and personal check (US$). CANCELLATION POLICY: Guest(s) will be liable to pay the cancellation or amendment charges shown below. More than 30 days before arrival date = 0% of the booking price. 30 – 7 days before arrival date = 25% of the booking price. Less than 7 days before arrival = 100% of the booking price. There will be no refunds if the client voluntarily decides to stop using the services included in the holiday before the end of his/her stay as we may not be able to get another booking at short notice. REFUNDS: If the booking is cancelled in full or partially later than 7 full days prior to your arrival or during your stay refund can not be made and you will have to pay for all the time period of the booking. Refunds can not be issued for the unused days of stay if guests have to leave early as we may not be able to get another booking at short notice of less than 7 days. LAUNDRY SERVICE: €5 per load (2-3 hours, drying outside, if raining – inside). CLOTHES DRYER: €1 per every 10 minutes, runs on electricity. CLEANING FEE: There is no cleaning fee at this time and we clean everything ourselves. We do not allow any cleaners or oher people into your room during your stay here. WINTER PRICING: Between October and May the prices may be lowered and are negotiable.
House Rules
For good coexistence and mutual respect, these are some basic rules or clarifications. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or needs. DOOR ENTRY: We do not have a guest key for the house, since we are always at home, so we will open the door for you. Ring the door bell button. KITCHEN: We are a vegetarian non-smoker couple who also do not have cooking skills thus we are unable to serve you breakfast, but a light use of our kitchen and refrigerator storage is possible. LAUNDRY & DRYING: We wash your bedding and towels once per week and after every guests stay which is included in the price. Yet if you need to wash your clothes and extras we do the laundry and drying for you upon your request at the following cost: LAUNDRY SERVICE: €5 per load (2-3 hours, drying outside on a line at no extra cost, if raining – inside, if space is available). CLOTHES TUMBLE DRYER: €1 per every 10 minutes, runs on electricity. WC: No solid objects (exception: toilet paper) should be deposited into the toilet. Please leave them in the trash bucket next to the toilet. Gentlemen please urinate in the WC by sitting only. Urinating by standing is possible in a designated area outdoors. SMOKING: While smoking inside of the house is not allowed, we can arrange a designated space for smoking outside. CHECK IN: Usually any time after 13:00 (1:00 pm) and before 22:00 (10:00 pm), but bags can be left earlier. CHECK OUT: Before noon (12:00 midday) unless I don't have another guest arriving, we can arrange a later check out. BEDDING: All bedding sheets, pillows, covers and bath towels are provided. BATH: Soap and shampoo is not provided due to personal needs can vary. GRILL: Use of the outside grill owen (photographed) can be arranged with an advance agreement (to prepare firewood), for a reasonable extra charge. SHOES: You can wear your shoes while inside the room as long as they are free of mud or you can wear slippers if you prefer. We may have a spare pair of slippers in case if you need them. GUESTS: The room is for your use only. Visitors are not allowed unless discussed and agreed in advance. CAR: Unfortunately I do not own a passenger car, only a two-seater lorry (truck). Therefore I recommend renting a car with some rental company. TAXI: We can call you a taxi if you need it. EXTRAS: Special requests such as arrange a bonfire or provide a space for a tent in our spacious upper "backyard" (surrounded by woods) or arrange a walk in our garden can be discussed in advance. We will charge a reasonable fee to cover our costs. HELP: Is always available, just ask.
