Garden Delight
Overview
At this Oak Park gem there is no shortage of quiet, peacefulness, but the cities' bright lights, good food, and lively energy are just minutes away. Close interstate access makes getting to anywhere in metro Detroit very quick. This listing is for the Garden Suite which is more than 600 sq ft including your own private lounge with full couch & 50" TV, full bathroom, a workspace with table and chairs, large closet, blackout curtains, fridge, Mr. Coffee machine, and the most comfortable KING bed. An emergency escape window allows light to fill the bedroom while the double curtains offer filtered or blackout options. The attached private bathroom is the largest in the house and has a full bath with granite vanity. The ceiling is short - it is a Michigan style. Across the space it is 6'4 but dips to 5'5" where there are vents. The garden suite is on the same level as the laundry room (so you might see host and others there) and the utility room (furnace, water heater, etc). Sound proofing throughout the house dims the sound of people walking above, doors shutting, and other noises, but is not perfect. Due to the noise potential, this space is not recommended for light sleepers (though earplugs are available on the nightstand). This space is not ideal for warm climate guests in the winter (my other listing on the main floor is more suitable, please see it for availability) as it is cool all year long. While most of the space is set up for guests, several items for the room are stored in the closet. Available for 7 days to 25 day stays; longer stays available for people temporarily in the area for work.
House Rules
I take pride in providing a great stay, and most guests are wonderful. These rules ensure a smooth experience for everyone. Booking & Check-In A deposit is required to hold your reservation. At check-in, guests must provide a valid ID, sign the roommate agreement, pay in full, and leave a security deposit (cash, money order, or cashier’s check). Stays of 25+ days are only for work travelers—work verification is required. Guests must have a verified government ID, positive reviews, and live at least 20 miles away from Oak Park, MI 48237. Check-in: 4 PM – 11 PM. Early check-in at 1 PM ($25) with prior approval. Check-out: 10 AM. Late check-out at 1 PM ($25) with prior approval. No early check-in/late check-out for same-day reservations or stays under 2 nights. During Your Stay This listing is for solo travelers. An occasional overnight guest may be approved for $15 per night, but this is not for an additional live-in guest. Returning guests can self-check-in. First-time guests must meet the host for a welcome tour. Arrival time must be communicated in advance. Keys provided at check-in; lost/damaged keys are a $60 fee. Lock the deadbolt on exterior doors when entering or leaving. No parties, events, or unapproved visitors. This is a home, not a hotel or event center. Approved visitors require written consent. Shared Home & Amenities You are renting a private bedroom and bathroom in a shared home with the host, family, and other guests. Noise & Environment: This home is located near I-696, which will be under construction from March 2025 to March 2027. While the house is well-insulated, guests may experience some outside noise from roadwork during this period. Additionally, as this is a shared home, you may hear other guests, utilities, or normal household sounds. The garden-level ceilings range from 6'4" to 5'6" at vents. House security: Ring doorbells and flood detectors are installed. If a flood alarm sounds, stop water contact and notify the host. Heating & Cooling: The guest room is cooler year-round but has an electric vent for extra heat. Supplies: Guests are provided with a starter amount of essentials (soap, paper towels, etc.) but are responsible for anything additional or specific they may need. Kitchen Use & Cleanliness The kitchen is shared—please be quick, clean up immediately, and only one guest at a time. Use only one appliance at a time. A tray is provided in your room to assist with food prep. Keep shared spaces clean—leave them as you found them. No shoes inside—you may leave shoes by the door, but other belongings should be kept in your room. Parking & Outdoor Rules Max 1 cars, parked in front of the house, nose pointed north (toward the interstate). Do not park in front of neighbors’ homes or use their driveways. Winter Parking: Streets are plowed in snow emergencies—additional parking instructions will be provided if needed. Quiet Hours & Respecting Others Quiet hours: 11 PM – 9 AM. No loud talking, music, or loitering outside. Minimize entering/exiting during quiet hours to respect others who may be sleeping. Mail & Property Access No mail or packages may be received at this address (food deliveries are allowed). Guest areas off-limits: Attic & garage. Trash day: Friday mornings. Lawn service: Tuesdays (weather permitting). Check-Out Responsibilities Return all furniture and items to their original places. Take out all trash, hang wet towels, and lock up before leaving. Windows: If you open them, lock them before leaving. Some are insulated with plastic—please leave them as is. Other Important Notes No pets. No smoking inside. Violations of rules may result in immediate cancellation, additional fees, forfeiture of deposits, and/or being asked to leave with no refund. Lawn care: The lawn grows longer before being cut and is watered regularly—be mindful of sprinklers. Final Note I want this to be a five-star experience for you!
