Authentic Italian Villa
Overview
Live the True Italian Life: Family, Food & Peace in the Emilia Hills. Welcome to our warm Italian home in Roteglia, a small and peaceful village nestled in the Emilian Apennine hills, between Reggio Emilia and Modena. Our large family villa was lovingly built by Francesco and his father Aldo, a humble mason, after years of hard work and dreams. It’s a house filled with stories, laughter, and memories – the kind of home that makes you feel part of something real and beautiful. Today, the villa is home to Ebe and Francesco, who have been happily married for over 35 years. Their four children (Erika, Mattia, Marcello, and Deborah) have all grown up here and now live in the cities, but they often come back to visit, bringing life and warmth to the family table. Ebe is a wonderful cook, passionate about sharing the secrets of authentic Emilian cuisine – from handmade pasta and lasagna to tigelle, pizza and homemade bread baked in the traditional outdoor oven. Guests are welcome to join her in the kitchen and learn these timeless recipes. The house is surrounded by a large garden full of flowers and fruit trees, where you can relax, read a book under the sun, or play with the two family cats, Lapo and Milo. The village is small but traditional, you can walk to the bar, bakery, church, park, pharmacy, gelateria, and pizzeria in just a few minutes. Although public transport is limited (no nearby train station or taxi service), local buses connect the village to the close cities. The location is perfect for exploring: you can head towards the mountains to hike, ski, or forage wild berries and mushrooms, or ride through the scenic Emilian hills on a Vespa or e-bike, which we can provide upon request. Francesco loves vintage cars and motorcycles, and guests interested in mechanics or restoration are welcome to watch or lend a hand in his workshop. If you’re looking for an experience that goes beyond tourism – one that lets you live like a local, eat homemade food, breathe the countryside air, and discover the heart of Italian family life – our home is waiting for you.
