Art Deco living in West Auckland
Overview
Welcoming travellers to my Heritage Listed Art Deco home located in Glen Eden, West Auckland which is central to Auckland City, Waitakere Ranges and our wild West Coast beaches (Piha, Karekare, Muriwai) offering furnished rooms to travellers, business people, tourists, and international students. An ideal start/finish point for overseas travellers to New Zealand. A relaxed home environment away from the city where you can plan your travels around New Zealand, or for the return home. Also ideal for guests attending Weddings/functions in West Auckland/Waitakere area or visiting friends and family and business people working in the local area. Guests are welcome to relax in the shared lounge and dining areas or relax in the privacy of their own rooms. The kitchen is also a shared space where guests can prepare their own meals. Each bedroom has excellent beds/bedding, and heaters in the Winter. Bathrooms are also shared. Laundry also available. Easy access to Mt Eden Rugby Park by train (Glen Eden to Kingsland stop). There is self help continental breakfast available which includes my home made muesli. Guests also welcome to help themselves to tea and coffee anytime. WiFi internet is available. Public transport (buses, trains), car hire, supermarkets and organic shops (grocer and butcher) are all just a short walk away. Other attractions & activities : - Local markets (Avondale, Oratia and Titirangi) - Night markets (New Lynn Henderson) - Cafés and restaurants - Organic stores and cafes - Wine and vineyard tours (West Auckland and Kumeu region) - West Coast beaches - Surfing - Bush walks in the Waitakere ranges - Shopping centers I have been hosting visitors to my home for several years now and always enjoy the diverse cultures that come here.
House Rules
Please respect the rights of every housemate to quiet enjoyment of the facilities. Smokers, outside smoking only and please shut the door when smoking, so cigarette smoke does not blow inside the house. Keep noise down to reasonable levels at all times. After 9:00 pm, any sound generated within your room should not be audible in any other room. Some residents have early starts in the morning. It can be particularly noisy upstairs with wooden floors and doors slamming, so please close them quietly. The common areas are regularly cleaned but please leave in a tidy state after you have used them. This is particularly important in the kitchen and bathrooms. We practice recycling in this house as much as possible to protect our environment. Items such as plastic, newspapers, magazines, cardboard and drink containers or bottles are sorted into the green bin next to the rubbish bin. Please rinse food scraps off all rubbish as it is only put out once a week and can attract flies if smelly. Food scraps go in the compost. There is a small bucket on the bench for this. Please close and lock the door behind you when you leave the house. In Wintertime, heaters are provided. Heaters are very expensive to run. Please use them with respect by ensuring they are switched off when you go to sleep or leave for the day. There are only two bathrooms for seven bedrooms. Please keep shower times under 10 minutes, time in bathroom under 20 minutes. Towels are provided but not replaced after every use in the interests of conserving water. Please ask if you require a fresh towel. Please enjoy your stay and treat my house as you would your own home!
