Harrison St.
Overview
My home is an unusual, single story commercial space located in the Harrison Street Arts District of Oak Park. (The Village of Oak Park was once home to Ernest Hemingway and Frank Lloyd Wright.) I live in the building and have a spare bedroom that I would like to rent to a student. The shared loft space has 12' ceilings with a northern exposure. The space is quiet and conducive to study. Included is a backyard garden with a terrace. One cat and one small dog are in residence. My home is accommodating and comfortable. It’s only 1/2 block to the CTA Blue Line entrance at Lombard Ave. (fifteen minutes to the Chicago Loop), and steps away from a coffee shop, a yoga studio, and other interesting businesses. I am a retired special education teacher. I taught most subjects, but specifically english, social studies and art/history. My undergraduate degree is a BFA in design and art history from the University of Illinois at Chicago, my MS in special education, and my teaching certificate, were from Dominican University (my mother’s alma mater). I come from a large family, I have numerous nieces and nephews, and most of my siblings still live the area. This affords the opportunity for us to get together on a regular basis, and my Homestay guest would be welcome to spend time with my friends and family. If my guest and I have similar interests, they could also accompany me to the cultural events and exhibits which I frequently attend. Some of my other interests include movies, music, gardening, and time spent outside in the parks, or at the lakefront, with my dog.
