Description

Historical Walking Tour of Killarney

Meeting point
1. Annan Cultural Centre Introductions and brief overview of Tour.

2. 100 metres walk to Johnny O'Leary statue (importance of Traditional music in our culture)

3. 50 metres to Golden gates, Killarney House (Queen Victoria stayed here 1861, King Charles visited 2018) Valentine Brown. The LOVE to hear how Mr John Mc Shain (the man who built Washington) lived here and gifted it, the lakes,  Ross Castle and the national Park to Irish state for free.

4. Walk through Cherry tree drive (3 mins. Beautiful view of lake and mountains) to statue of Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty  (saved 6,500 people during WW2) (lots of American guests know about him,  as there was a famous movie "The Scarlet and the Black" made about his remarkable life). They always enjoy hearing more about  him.

5. Walk down Mission Rd 4/5 minutes (explaining about Irish Missionaries who went all over the world,  showing beautiful stone sculpture park to celebrate this) stories of Irish imagination to America.

6. St. Mary's Cathedral (very interesting history /stories about here).

7. Walk 1 minute walk to see St. Brendans college, impressive stone building (WB Yates visited and stayed here, i usually recite "Lake Isle of Innisfree" or "Cloths of Heaven" here)

8. Back up the town through the lanes, explaining markets selling sheep, cattle, horses, hens and turkeys.

9. The Market cross where I talk about Irish life and its people. (They usually have lots of questions)

10. I walk them to their restaurant (if they have one booked / recommend what would suit them) OR to a good Irish pub (one with traditional music or quiet place for a well earned drink)

This is NOT a history lesson or a lecture, no, it's  lighthearted, entertaining and I zone in on the guests interests. We usually even have a song along the way.

Looking forward to sharing it with delighting guests with this wonderful tour  of entertainment, craic, culture and history. Time: 1 hour approximately
