Flavors of Sarajevo – A Tasty Journey Through Culture and History
Hi, I’m Stefan. I grew up in Sarajevo and know the city like the back of my hand. I speak fluent English and love showing people the real side of Sarajevo — not just the tourist spots, but also the hidden places, local stories, and everyday life here. If you’re looking for a relaxed and personal experience of the city, I’d be happy to show you around.

Meeting Point: We’ll meet in front of the main entrance to Skenderija Center, right next to the large “Dom Mladih” sign. It’s easy to find and just a short walk from the city center. How to recognize me: I’ll be wearing a black cap and carrying a small notebook with Sarajevo stickers on it – you won’t miss it!
Description
When you walk through Sarajevo, the smell of fresh bread, roasted meat, and coffee follows you at every step. But Sarajevo’s food isn’t just about taste—it’s a story of cultures, war, survival, and togetherness.
This is not a fancy food tour. It’s authentic, just like the city.
We’ll start at Skenderija, then head towards the heart of Baščaršija, tasting traditional burek, ćevapi, pita, homemade sweets and of course, Bosnian coffee. Along the way, I’ll tell you the stories behind each dish: how food kept people together during the siege, what the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian influences left on our table, and where locals really eat today.
What we’ll taste and explore:
- Buregdžinica – The best local pies (you’ll learn the difference between burek, sirnica, krompiruša)
- Ćevabdžinica – Bosnia’s famous ćevapi (with somun bread, of course)
- Sweet stop – Tufahija, baklava, or hurmašica – you choose!
- Bosnian coffee – Traditional preparation and tasting, with the full ritual
- Along the way: hidden corners, war stories, cultural landmarks
We’ll finish near Vijećnica (City Hall), full, happy, and with a better understanding of Sarajevo’s soul.
