Street Photography Tour: Eyes Wide Open
Hi! My name is Şahika. A native Istanbul-er (I hate İstanbulite) I spent several years living in other diverse and fast-paced cities including Houston, Boston and London. I think I can give you a unique perspective of Istanbul comparing it to other metropolis and ultimately showcase how it is like no other city in the world. I am an avid traveler myself and I deeply treasure the spontaneous connections created on the road; purely out of shared curiosity and an unspoken agreement to share a moment together. I will be striving to create this convivial atmosphere on my own tours.

Description
EYES WIDE OPEN: SEE, HEAR AND SMELL ISTANBUL
PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR (FOR ALL LEVELS)
This tour will not only show you the "real" streets of Istanbul but allow you to express your own gaze. And I mean the real "real streets." Not the streets of Pera or Galata with hole-in-the-wall fancy bars but the lesser seen working-class neighborhoods just a short walk away which have carried the mess and burden of the entertainment district. Not Istiklal Street with the polished storefronts but the hidden passages or "Hans" as we call them which have housed bazaars and craftwork shops for centuries.
The goal is for you to not just be receivers of a historical narrative but have the ability to retell it through your lens- so grab your cameras! As a professional art director and photographer I will be there to provide tips on framing, lighting and other basics of photography. We will also discuss topics such as the importance of cultural representation in arts or the ethics of working with human subjects.
You do not have to have professional equipment or advanced knowledge of photography- even your phone camera will do! Just bring your enthusiasm and sense of mystery to take idiosyncratic twists and turns with me to create our own map of Istanbul.
