Description

New York City is a world center for art and culture.  We will explore art and architecture in the midtown area of Manhattan ranging from some of New York’s most iconic buildings like Saint Patricks Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Terminal and the Chrysler Building, while learning about the history and growth of the city.  We will also be looking at the city as art museum, examining the blue chip art (read million dollar price tags) found on display in the stores of Fifth Avenue and the Hedge Fund Buildings on Park Avenue.   We will also see one of the last standing gilded age mansions on 5th Avenue, once the neighborhood to New York’s wealthy elite like the Rockefellers and the Vanderbilts.

Sights on our tour : Bergdorf Goodman Department Store, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, KAWS sculpture “BFF’, Cartier, Tiffany’s, including highlights from its  impressive in store art collection including “Equals Pi” by Jean Michelle Basquiat, the Seagrams Building and Grand Central Terminal.  Our tour will end at the Chrysler Building with a peak into its amazing art deco lobby.

We  will have a lot of fun learning about the history of New York  City as well as contemporary art history analyzing the art on display in its public buildings as it shapes the city and reflects its people.
