Free tour of the Amsterdam Vondelpark with a local!
I'm an Amsterdam local, with a real passion for the beauty of my city. I'm definitely new to being a tour-guide, but I love the Vondelpark, so I'm very happy to show it to some visitors! Personally I love going totally new places with a different culture and learning from a local guide. I got opportunities to do this in China, Italy and the USA, and it was always amazing. Hoping to do the same for you!
Pickup
I will be in front of the Rijksmuseum, on the side of the city center. I am a tall Dutch guy wearing a black backpack.
Description
The Vondelpark is the most popular park in Amsterdam, with very good reason. Described by many visitors as the "Central Park" of Amsterdam, it is famous for it's ponds and streams, it's beautiful meadows, and the faint smell of tourists enjoying the freedom of Amsterdam!
For me, like for many other "Amsterdammers", the Vondelpark is a centerpiece of my life in Amsterdam. I bike through it, I have picnics there, and during Kingsday I shop there, at the world's best open market. I'm eager to tell you all about this park, and what makes it so special to all of us.
On this tour I will tell you about the history of the Vondelpark, and the many different art pieces, buildings and "follies" that exist within it's bounds. We will cover every period, from the Vondelpark's creation, through wars and social movements, all the way up till ten years ago, when the park was saved from neglect by the whole city coming together to rescue the Vondelpark!
We will visit the following locations:
- Entrance at the Singelgracht
- Statue of Joost Vondel
- Artworks by Picasso & Nelson Carrilho
- The Rose Garden.
- The Blue Teahouse, the Music Stand, and the Vondelpark Pavillion(Park Zuid).
We will meet in front of the Rijksmuseum, on the side of the city center. We will finish inside the park, but of course I can help you find your way back outside if needed ;)
The tour takes about two hours. Hope to see you all soon!
