I will be in the parking lot in front of the Gate of the Colón Cemetery (Corner of Calzada de Zapata and Calle 12, El Vedado neighborhood. I will wear jeans and a black t-shirt.

Description

The Colón Cemetery is located in Vedado, an emblematic neighborhood of Havana . With an area of ​​56 hectares, it is one of the largest cemeteries in Latin America. There are more than 50,000 funeral properties, where more than 2 million people are buried. Due to its historical and cultural relevance, it is considered the third most important cemetery in the world and was declared a National Monument of Cuba in 1987.

This is a Catholic cemetery that reflects the Latin roots of Cuban culture. However, the visitor will be able to verify the presence of pantheons related to Masonic, Protestant, Afro-Cuban practices and others of singular origin. We will witness a valuable artistic heritage, appreciating a wide variety of styles ranging from neoclassical to art deco and modernism . A true open-air museum.

Built between 1871 and 1886, the Colón Necropolis is closely linked to the history of the Cuban nation, witnessing key moments in its history and housing the remains of iconic figures in art, politics and sports, whose legacy is essential to understand who we are. There will be no shortage of myths and legends that surround this cemetery in a halo of mystery and fascination.
