I'm a 6th generation son born in the Bokaap. Our community are decendants of slaves and political exiles from the far east as a registered guide in Cape town I offer walking tours in the citybowl and bokaap sharing our communities history and culture with the world I'd love to show you around our neighborhood. I have a strong connection to the broader community. I'm a director of the bokaap tourism association and a director of Bokaap helpers garden. which is a NPO in the city focusing on community gardening. Have an intimate knowledge of Robben Island as a lived there for over 10 years too.

Description
We meet at the slave lodge where the voc housed there slaves used as a brothel in evenings for sailors passing by, from there we visit the slave tree under which slaves were traded. Just across from the road is the square where you will find a memorial dedicated to the cape slave community.
Proceedings up Whale street we pass parliament, st George's cathedral where the aparthied activist Desmond Tutu precided as arch Bishop, dwelling into the cape Malay and bokaap's contribution fighting the aparathied regime. As we make our way up Whale street we cross Long street which hosts the second oldest mosque in south africa.
As we enter today's Bokaap definitely passing the Auwal mosque the very oldest. Engaging with locals, visiting the local spice shop, community garden and perhaps pop into a local home for a sweet treat. So come join me in my neighborhood where i grew up and where my roots are deeply rooted.
