León is a city located in northwestern Nicaragua, known for its rich history, culture, and colonial architecture. Founded in 1524, it is one of the oldest cities in the country and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.
The city is famous for some of its buildings such as its baroque cathedral, the Catedral de León, one of the largest in Central America, which has twin towers and an impressive carved stone façade.
In addition, León is a center of Nicaraguan culture, with numerous festivals and cultural events throughout the year, including the famous Independence Fair in September.
