Hi, my name is Luiz, and I’m thrilled to be your guide through Rocinha, the largest favela in South America! Born and raised here, I speak fluent English and am ready to share my home’s unique culture, history, and stories with you. During this tour, you’ll not only sightsee and take photos but also experience the real essence of the favela, far beyond the media’s portrayal.
- Tour Overview:
- The tour starts at the top of the favela (a safe point) and follows a downhill route to the São Conrado subway station.
- It’s a straightforward walk with stops for sightseeing, photos, and cultural explanations.
- Along the way, I’ll share insights into the favela’s culture, unwritten rules, and daily life while answering any questions you have.
- What Makes This Tour Unique?
- As a local with over 12 years of experience, I offer a real, unscripted perspective. My tour is authentic and focused on genuine storytelling, not polished performances.
- Important Update: Starting December 16th, 2024, the Rio de Janeiro government implemented a tax on favela tours. To continue offering this experience, I now request a minimum contribution of 100 reais per person (other favela tours often charge double). Your contribution helps cover this tax, basic expenses, and ensures I can keep this tour available.
