Itinerary

Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park

After being picked up from the hotel, you will proceed to Mikumi National Park and enjoy a picnic lunch on the way. The journey will take about 7 hours through the most unexplored and untouched areas in Tanzania. The Mikumi floodplain is the main feature of the park, along with the bordering mountain ranges. Animals commonly found here include lion, eland, hartebeest, buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, hippo and elephant. The Mikumi elephants are mainly grazers and do not cause damage.

Dinner and overnight will be at Mikumi Park Cottages inside the park. Sleeping inside the park will give you the opportunity of viewing animals all the time.

Day 2: Mikumi National Park them Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Before breakfast, start a game drive at 6:00 am in the park. The morning game-viewing drives are the best because that is when most of the killings take place. Enjoy the game drive up to 8:40 am, then return for breakfast. After breakfast, you will start a safari of 40 minutes to the Sanje Waterfalls in Udzungwa. It is the highest waterfall in Tanzania and you can swim in the natural pool. Upon arrival, you will meet our guide/rangers who will accompany you on the hiking tour.

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is well known for its excellent hiking, trekking, mountain climbing, and forest walks. The most popular hiking tour is up to the Sanje Waterfalls, looking for monkeys, swimming in plunge pools, and enjoying the spectacular view while enjoying a picnic lunch. After your hiking tour, you will descend the mountains and return to Mikumi for your overnight stay at Camp Bastian.

Day 3: Mikumi to Nyerere National Park

After breakfast at 08:30 am, we continue to Selous Game Reserve, a drive of 7 to 8 hours. You will have a picnic lunch on the way. The journey will take you through the most unexplored and untouched areas in Tanzania. Your meals and overnight stay will be at Africa Safari Selous Camp.

Day 4: Nyerere National Park & Boat Safari

The day will be spent on wildlife viewing in the game reserve. In the evening, you will go on a boat safari for 2 to 3 hours. The safari guide will point out rare species of animals like wild dog, sable antelope, black rhinoceros, Nile crocodile, hippopotamus along the banks of the Rufiji River, Cape buffalo, hartebeest, and eland. A picnic lunch and drinks will be served in the wilderness before heading back to the camp for dinner. Spend your overnight stay listening to the gentle grunting of the night sounds at Africa Safari Selous.

Boat safaris are also the best excursions for bird enthusiasts. Selous has over 350 bird species, and the river is the place where they congregate in great numbers and are easily seen in the open environment. You might also want to try your luck with the ferocious tiger fish and the weighty catfish that live in the waters in abundance.

Day 5: Walking Safari in Nyerere then transfer to Dar es Salaam

Have a cup of tea and some homemade biscuits or a doughnut, then go on a sunrise bush walk. The walks usually leave camp at 6:00 - 6:30 am. Walking safaris are a fantastic way to get close to nature and learn more about the smaller species and the bush itself. It's an unforgettable experience to walk within such a vast and untamed area of a natural reserve. The walks take about 2 to 3 hours. Afterward, return to the camp for breakfast and then proceed to Dar Es Salaam or take a boat to Zanzibar.
