Itinerary

Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park

You will be picked up from the hotel at 8:00 am and drive to Nyerere. It will take 5 hours to reach, arriving at the lodge for a hot lunch. In the evening, you will have a boat safari on Rufiji River where you can see hippos, crocodiles, sunsets, birds etc. The evening safari starts at 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm sunset. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Mloka Safari Lodge or similar.

Day 2: Game View Drive in Nyerere National Park

After breakfast at 8:30 am with your lunch packed, you will drive to Nyerere National Park formerly Selous Game Reserve, for a full-day game viewing drive. The park is famous for its elephants, lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras and greater kudus. It was originally set aside as a hunting area where animals are abundant but more shy than in the Northern parks. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Mloka Safari Lodge or similar.

Day 3: Nyerere National Park

After breakfast at your lodge, you will enjoy another full-day game view along the Rufiji River. Rufiji River is hippo-filled, and the lakes are fringed with palm trees. The park covers an area of over 30,000 square kilometres. Nyerere is, after all, home to one of the biggest lion populations in Africa. Lion, elephant, zebra, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, buffalo, wildebeest—you’re almost guaranteed to see plenty of these. It’s also a good place to see African wild dogs and leopards, but these are harder to find. Wherever you look, the backdrop to all these animals is always beautiful. The rocky hills rise over parts of the reserve, the Rufiji. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Mloka Safari Lodge or similar.

Day 4: Walking Safari in Nyerere to Dar es Salaam

Have an early morning tea or coffee at the camp, then start Bushman walking safaris, the most exciting experience. It is unique in Tanzania and you will walk for 3 hours then get back to camp for breakfast. After breakfast, collect your things and drive back to Dar es Salaam and be dropped off at the ferry or airport.
